WSAFC Prem Women – NRFL Pre-Season Tournament Runners Up
WSAFC Women’s Premier Team Runners Up in NRFL Pre-Season Cup.
Our women’s premier team finished second in the NRFL pre-season tournament after losing 3-1 in the final to Auckland United.
Springs started off positively against the NRFL newcomers with a goal early on. It’s unclear who the goal was credited to after Maggie Pederson’s long-range strike came down off the crossbar and may or may not have crossed the line, however Rina Hirano was on hand to remove any doubt.
In a game consisting of three 30 minute periods, despite leading at the first break in play, Auckland United took control in the second period scoring 3 goals. The last 30 ended all square at 0-0 which meant Auckland United claimed their first ever piece of silverware.
Despite the scoreline, Springs coach Alessandro (Alex) Fantoni was pleased with the way in which the team applied themselves:
“I was very proud of the way the team played today, with courage and desire to do good and the determination to stick to our game plan.
First thirty was 1-0 to us
Second thirty was 3-0 to them.
Third thirty was 0-0.
There were good moments & not so good moments, but they are all part of the process of getting better.”
Alessandro (Alex) Fantoni, Women’s Premier Head Coach
