On the 18th of November, Springs and the Kosmos Over 45s team lost a great man and club member.
Ollie Mitchell first played for a Springs team almost 20 years ago and rejoined the club after moving back to Auckland a few years back after a decent stint farming in Te Kuiti. Playing for the Mercs and a couple of other teams as a ring-in before finding his home with the mighty Kosmos over 45's.
Sadly in March 2020, Ollie, in one of our lockdown quiz nights shared the news that he had been diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. Despite a great battle, which allowed him time with his young family and also a memorable and emotional trip away with the footy team, which included a fair few long nights filled with music and laughs, he passed away peacefully at home with his family.
We all know some good Kiwi blokes, but Ollie really was a special man, generous and honest to a fault, a great father to Alice, Amelia, Bede, Keir, and husband to Caitlyn Gill, and the very best teammate you could ever wish for.
You hung your boots up far too early fella.
RIP Ollie Mitchell
