Round 7: Five Minutes with Chris Zoricich – Top 6, Bottom 6

With the league splitting into a top 6 / bottom 6 format for the 2nd half of the season, Zoro and the boys are sat in 6th place.

As expected, it's a very tight league with 2 points covering 3rd to 10th place.
We are in for an exciting next four games, starting with Melville at home this Saturday 3pm kick off
As always, Zoro gave us his thoughts on a tough game v Forrest Hill Milford AFC and the threat posed by this weekend's opponents Melville United Football Club.
We also had a special guest watch the boys on the weekend, with All Whites Head Coach Danny Hay enjoying the atmosphere on the balcony.
Zoro discusses his relationship with Danny and what it means for all the up and coming Springs stars.
That felt like a real arm wrestle.
How did you see it?
1 point gained or 2 points lost?
Wasn’t the best spectacle, was it?
I’m pretty sure it wasn’t enjoyable to play in either. Neither team really got into any rhythm in possession. Perhaps the conditions had a bit to do with it.
Would have been nice to take all 3 points but a point at this stage of the season the point is certainly valuable.

Melville up next. They haven't had the best start to the season but are unbeaten in their last 2. Underperforming or other reasons?

Melville is a well-structured side with good players and well-coached. They haven’t had any luck during the start of the season but unfortunately for us that seems to be changing! We are expecting a tough encounter but hopefully, we can continue our own unbeaten run!

The Reserves seem to be travelling well. Is the aim for them to play the same style as the 1st team?

Yes we have asked Jason to follow the same structures as the first team. The players train with us every Tuesday so should be familiar with what I want from them. It’s all part of the alignment we have which is also filtered down through our youth teams.

It was good to see All Whites Head Coach Danny Hay watching the boys at the weekend. How is your working relationship with him?

Yes I have a good relationship with Danny obviously having been his assistant through two NZ u17 cycles. Recently we have rekindled that connection through my decision to align the club with the All Whites style of play.
It also helps that we are willing to give young players opportunities which is good news for Danny as the All Whites Coach as he can keep tabs on players that may be on the radar for NZ U20 , U23 and even future All Whites. The whole purpose of our pathway/development is to produce future All Whites.
