Sports Chaplaincy

Kia ora! Ko Thornton McDade toku ingoa.

It's a privilege to join WSAFC as the Sports Chaplain and I look forward to getting to know this great community.

Football, like most sports, can be an intense and transformative experience filled with highs and lows. My role here is to support you not just as athletes & coaches, but as individuals navigating these moments of competition and life. I know firsthand that being part of a team can bring incredible joy, but it can also come with challenges.

I hope to contribute to the building of the positive culture, based on the strong foundation of trust and camaraderie within the Club.

I’m looking forward to getting to know each of you and being a part of your journey.

Thank you.

In the third year of our Player Support Programme, members have generously donated over $5,000 in 2024, up from $3,000 in the first year. This initiative helps ease financial barriers so all families can enjoy the game.If you can donate $10, $25, or $50, please log into your Friendly Manager account and select “Player Support” under Merchandise. Businesses interested in supporting can also reach out.

Need Assistance? If your family needs support for the 2025 season, email playersupport@wsafc.org.nz for early planning.

Thank you for making football accessible to everyone!

The Sports Foundation

www.sportsfoundation.co.nz was set up to support the health and wellbeing of kids in sport who sadly suffer… the loss of a mother or father.

We support their mental health, sporting goals, nutrition and personal development. If we can help out someone you know please contact michael@sportsfoundation.co.nz

Every year, hundreds of young kiwi kids experience this life changing experience with the death of a parent.
Your contribution will provide health and wellbeing support along with life development skills to these children and their families.

Most of the funds required are to sustain our 3 step programme above – at the level of performance and at which we operate – comes from grants, sponsorships, donations, and public events.

If you would like to make a donation to the Foundation, it would be greatly appreciated.

Chatterbox

A family within our club tragically lost their husband and father to mental illness five years ago.

Since then, Emily Turnbull, the mother of Alfie (13th Grade) and Maisey (15th Grade), has founded a charity called "Chatterbox” to promote “Chatter That Matters.”
This initiative is dedicated to breaking down the stigma surrounding mental illness by encouraging open conversations and creating spaces for people to connect. They have even built special park benches designed to facilitate these important conversations.
You may have seen one of these beautiful benches down at Point Chev beach.
