Senior Committee
Alec Flood
SENIOR CLUB CHAIRPERSON

I have been playing football and watching football from a very early age. I joined WSAFC in the early 2000’s as a player in the Steamboats, I started coaching in 2008 and have coached both my daughters at WSAFC. I had the privilege of coaching the Women’s Development Team in 2023 and the U19 Girls in the Napier Tournament.

I have attended 3 FA Cup Finals, 1 Champions League Final, 1 European Championships, 1 Women’s World Cup and hundreds of Premier League games mainly at Anfield.

I joined the Senior Committee in 2020 and I am a strong advocate for women and girls football.
I sometimes wear my heart on my sleeve, and I am not backwards in coming forwards.

Outside of WSAFC I find time to be the CFO at a privately owned Property Management and
Development Company, having previously been a partner in a global professional services firm.

I’ve been floating around the club since 1993 and It’s incredible to see the evolution of Springs take place. Over the years I have been involved coaching my kids teams through to GK Coach with the Woman’s Premier team.

I’ve been on the committee for a few years currently Game day manager organising Game announcer., scoreboard, music and Ballkids/mascots for Premier games.  Also I’m goalkeeper connection through the Senior committee to our talented GKs

What I found during Covid was I didn’t miss playing as much as I missed the camaraderie of teammates and committee members who put in countless hours volunteering to make all club members experience at Springs enjoyable.

Football is one of my biggest passions. I've played at Western Springs since I was 5 and I've worked at the club for several years behind the bar and other jobs within the club before I joined the committee in 2022. Springs is my blood and I am very passionate about the club. My focus on the committee is the community teams and organizing social events.

I am currently studying Master of Social Work (Professional) at University of Auckland.

Communication and Branding

I have been in love with football since I can remember and have been lucky enough growing up watching Liverpool and my home country of Wales all over Europe. I moved to NZ in 2000 and found Springs in 2002. I played, coached and managed the Diamond Geezers for 17 years, winning 8 league titles from old AFF Div 7 to the Championship. We then stepped into the Reserves spot for 3 years, which was a great experience. I also have two sons who play for Springs and I have coached many of their teams throughout the years. To see some of the kids now heading towards the Premier level is great to see.

I’ve been on the senior committee for around 10 years now and have focussed on the communications and branding side of the club. I am determined to set down key guidelines for the club to move forward with seamlessly.

In my professional life, I have been involved in sales and marketing for over 20 years and I am currently enjoying the challenges of selling real estate where I get to put all my experience into my own business.

Women and Girls Football

I love football! Since playing in the school field at Primary School to still playing now when in my 50s, I guess you could say football is a lifetime passion of mine! I’ve been involved with WSAFC for the last 14 years through my children with my daughter, Charli, still playing at Springs. Since having children I’ve also taken up coaching and have progressed from a parent coach to now holding the C-Licence coaching qualification and coaching a girls Academy team (which Charli doesn’t play in). My goal is to provide girls with opportunities that match their desire and talent and to foster a lifelong love of the game!

In my professional life I started my career as an Accountant and have moved into Business Analyst, Project & Programme Management, Process Improvement and now Change Management roles across various industries including computing, retail, banking, legal, finance and more recently education.

Redevelopment / Updating of the Club Constitution

I grew up on the side of the football pitch, as the youngest of 5 kids I really had no choice as to what I did on the weekends.  I have been involved in football in Auckland for 20+ years, playing, parenting, managing, and on various committees.  My daughter played through the grades at Springs from 5 - 17, and I came back to playing 5 years ago.

I work in insurance, and have had several roles across the industry.  My current focus is Operational, where I am process driven, result focused and ask lots of ‘why’ questions, my job is about making my team's work life less complicated.

I’m new to the senior committee but am excited to be more involved in the behind the scenes and development of the club, particularly moving women’s football forward at all levels. I’ve been playing football on and off since I was 5 years old, the majority of that time has been spent here at Springs and even tried my hand at coaching for a few years. I’m currently playing in the community league in the women's div three team.

Outside of football, I am a scientist at the University of Auckland, having recently completed my PhD.
