Katie Duncan - New Head of Women's Football Appointed
Western Springs AFC is thrilled to announce the appointment of Katie Duncan as our new Head of Women’s Football and Women’s Premier Head Coach, effective Saturday, 24 May.
Katie brings a wealth of experience to our club. A former Football Fern and Olympian, she earned over 100 international caps and represented New Zealand at four FIFA Women’s World Cups and three Olympic Games. Katie is an OFC/NZC B Licence coach and holds a Bachelor of Physical Education and Health.
Katie has also made a strong impact in the local football scene, having held coaching, leadership and youth development roles at Eastern Suburbs AFC, Auckland United, and Onehunga Sports.
Katie expressed her enthusiasm about stepping into her new role at Western Springs stating:
“Taking on this role is an exciting opportunity for me to continue to give back to the sport that has given me so much. There’s been great progress in the girls and women’s programme here at Springs recently and I look forward to building on that. I’m also really looking forward to working with the strong premier squad in which I’m fortunate to already know a lot of the players - some of which I have coached or played with in the Football Ferns”.
In her new position, Katie will lead the strategic development of our women’s and girls’ football programmes, including our Girls Academy, and coach our Women’s Premier team. Her work will align closely with the WSAFC Club Strategy (2025–2030).
Until Katie officially joins us, Assistant Coach Alessandro Fantoni and Development Team Head Coach Adam Hayne will guide the Women’s Premier team through their next two fixtures:
- Friday, 16 May – vs. West Coast Rangers (Away) 7.30pm kick off at Fred Taylor Park
- Friday, 23 May – vs. Fencibles United (Home) 7.30pm kick off at Seddon Fields
We look forward to welcoming Katie to Seddon Fields soon!
