Women & Girls Plan - Update and Have Your Say

2024 has been a fantastic year for Women & Girls at Springs!

Highlights have included:

• The number of female players across all age groups has increased by 13% with close to 700 women and girls now playing football at Springs, representing 24% of our total player base!
• 10 additional female teams (with a total of 35+ Junior/Youth teams and 7 Senior teams).
• The Premier Women’s Team qualified for the Women’s National League again and reached the Kate Sheppard Cup final only to be beaten in a very tight final by arch-rivals Auckland United!
• The Premier Development (Reserves) team had had another great season winning their league for the second season in a row.
• A second Development team was introduced for the first time to provide a pathway for U16 players transitioning to Senior football who may not be quite ready for our Premier environment.

Our 2024 Women and Girls Plan has delivered over 50 initiatives to improve the female experience at Springs. Initiatives have ranged from those solely benefitting our female members to some benefitting our whole club e.g. U9+ female teams now play in black shorts, free sanitary products available to all, installed a vending machine with athlete focussed (and other!) snacks, created a clubroom area with beanbags and a table tennis table designed to make the clubrooms more appealing for our female and younger members etc.

Looking ahead to 2025 … we’d love to hear from you both in terms of how we’ve done in 2024 to help improve the female experience at Springs and to hear any ideas you may have of how we can further enhance that experience in 2025 and beyond.
