WSAFC win Northern League for first time

Western Springs Football Club have won the Northern Region Football League title for the first time in the clubs history.

The Scott Hales-coached side won after losing their final game of the competition.

They were beaten 2-1 by Auckland United, who sealed their place in the Men’s National League with the win at Seddon Fields

Western Springs took a 1-0 lead into the break thanks to captain Reid Drake. However former former Springs player Emiliano Tade levelled in the 64th minute.Otto Ingham then secured the win and his side’s national league qualification with the winner in the 78th minute.

Springs ended up on 42 points

On at the same time was Birkenhead United, against Eastern Suburbs who could have taken the title with a win or a draw but lost 2-0 to Suburbs to finish on 41 points.

Suburbs missed the national comp as they finished on 40 points with Auckland United and Auckland City, both of whom had superior goal differences.

The WSAFC Women's Premier team finished fourth with a 5-0 win over Tauranga Moana.
