Emma Pijnenburg selected for NZ U20 World Cup Squad

27 Jul

A huge congratulations to Women's Premier player Emma Pijnenburg who has been selected for the New Zealand Women's U20 Team to compete at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Costa Rica in August!!

Emma has played at Springs since she began playing football aged 6 in our Whole of Football Programme. She progressed into our Mixed Premier Youth teams before being selected for our Women's Premier Team where she has played since 2020. In recent years, Emma has also previously been selected in the Auckland Football Federation National Women's League team and the NZ Futsal Ferns training squad.

Here's what Western Springs AFC's Head of Women's Football Ryan Faithfull had to say on Emma's selection "We're all so pleased for Emma, she's worked hard to achieve this position in the JFF squad and we wish her all the best for the experience. I know how much this will mean to her and her teammates after missing out on the Under-17 World Cup with Covid disruptions. Good luck Em!"

We look forward to supporting Emma and the progress of the NZ Women's U20 team in Costa Rica next month!
