Job Opportunity: Football Communications Officer (24 hours/week – Contractor)

About Western Springs AFC:
Western Springs AFC is a community-focused football club dedicated to fostering talent, passion, and inclusivity at all levels of the game, and have recently released the WSAFC Club Strategy 2025-2030.
Western Springs AFC has a long history tracing its roots all the way back to 1923. The current club was formed through the amalgamation of Grey Lynn Celtic and Pt Chevalier AFC in 1989.
Position Overview:
Are you a looking for a entry-level communications professional looking to kickstart your career in social media and membership communications?
We are looking for a dynamic, creative, and proactive Contractor to manage our Social Media channels and Membership Communications. This part-time role, reporting to the General Manager, will be essential in building and maintaining a strong online presence while keeping our members informed and engaged with club activities, events, and announcements.
The role is 24 hours per week and will involve a mix of digital content creation, strategy development, and direct communication with members and the broader football community.
Key Responsibilities:
Social Media Management:
- Implement the WSAFC social media strategy across platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X etc.) to enhance the club's digital presence.
- Create engaging content including images, videos, and posts to highlight team achievements, events, training sessions, and club news, with tools such as Canva.
- Monitor and engage with followers, respond to inquiries, and manage online conversations in a professional and timely manner.
- Track social media performance and generate reports on engagement, growth, and trends.
Membership Communications:
- Manage communications with club members, including email newsletters, updates, and announcements, including the WSAFC phone app.
- Collaborate with the Club Manager to ensure members are informed of key dates, events, and important news.
- Assist in growing and retaining club membership through targeted campaigns and member engagement initiatives.
- Ensure all communications reflect the club's brand and tone.
Collaboration & Reporting:
- Work closely with club staff, volunteers, and external partners to ensure alignment in messaging and events.
- Report on the effectiveness of communication strategies and provide suggestions for improvement.
Skills and Qualifications:
Ideal for entry-level candidates with a strong interest in social media, digital marketing, or communications. (previous experience in sports organizations or clubs is a plus).
- Advantageous to be currently studying for a Communications or Marketing Degree.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to adapt tone and style for various audiences.
- A good understanding of social media analytics tools (e.g., Facebook Insights, Instagram Analytics) and reporting techniques.
- Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Friendly Manager, Website Administration) is beneficial.
- Creative, self-motivated, and able to manage time effectively across multiple projects.
- Passion for football and community engagement is highly desirable.
Contract Details:
Hours: 24 hours per week (flexible scheduling including evenings and weekends)
Location: Western Springs AFC, Auckland (with flexibility for remote work)
Contract Duration: 6 months with the potential for extension
Rate of Pay: $25 per hour (plus GST if applicable)
